Overview

With HP Internet Printer Connection, electronic documents can be sent from an office in New York to a printer in London using the Internet as a transport mechanism. Hewlett-Packard is working to make the vision of Internet printing a reality. HP Internet Printer Connection software combined with HP Jetdirect print servers is the first step in meeting the need for an instantaneous and cost effictive means of sharing high quality printed documents. From word processed reports to full-color graphics, Internet Printing will give you the ability to quickly and easily distribute time sensitive documents to printers anywhere in the world at a fraction of the cost compared to traditional methods.

Features

Internet printing is simple

HP Internet Printer Connection software allows you to take any electronic document and print it to any accessible printer by using its unique IP address, hostname, or URL. The print process operates exactly as printing to a locally attached or LAN printer.

To make using HP Internet Printer Connection software simple and easy, HP has also provided an innovative way to connect and print to an available IPP-enabled printer. Point your web browser to the unique IP address, hostname, or URL of the printer, click on the Internet Printing Install Wizard link, and Internet Printer Connection software will automatically setup a print path to that printer.

Get started with a supported print server and HP Internet Printer Connection software

To make an HP Printer available on the Internet, the printer requires an Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) enabled HP Jetdirect print server. The following HP Jetdirect print servers support the IPP with a firmware upgrade: HP Jetdirect 600n and 610n EIO internal print servers, HP Jetdirect 400n MIO internal print servers, and HP Jetdirect 300x and 500x external print servers.

To print to an accessible HP Jetdirect-connected printer over the Internet, you also need HP Internet Printer Connection Software.

HP Jetdirect print server firmware must be version x.07.17 (or later) to support the Internet Printing Protocol. The following print servers may be upgraded with firmware to support the Internet Printing Protocol:

HP Jetdirect 600n (EIO) internal print servers

HP Jetdirect 400n (MIO) internal print servers

HP Jetdirect 300x external print servers

HP Jetdirect 500x external print servers

Supported Proxies:

Web Proxy with support for HTTP v1.1 or later

Supported Browsers:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (with Service Pack 1) and higher, Netscape Navigator 4.06 and higher.

Note: Browsers are NOT required for using Internet Printer Connection software. The browser is required to use an automatic install wizard for the software that is enabled by browsing to the IP address, hostname, or URL of an IPP-enabled HP Jetdirect print server.

System requirements:

Computer running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 Pro
