HP Extended Cluster for RAC is a disaster-tolerant configuration, designed specifically for the Oracle RAC environment. It essentially optimizes HP Serviceguard Extension for RAC (SGeRAC) for an extended cluster configuration. It enables a single Oracle RAC database to be shared across two data centers, up to a distance of 100 kilometers. SGeRAC maintains continuous application availability through a second data center, in the event a disaster takes down the primary data center.
A distributed set of computing resources located across two data centers accesses a single logical database. The database is replicated and synchronized in both data centers. HP Extended Cluster for RAC works in an active-active mode across both data centers utilizing all available resources. Servers are enabled for dynamic resource allocation through the use of Virtual Server Environment (VSE) technology.
With SGeRAC on HP-UX 11i, resources are automatically routed, based on service level objectives between data centers, servers, and partitions. This newly-enhanced solution creates a dynamic resource allocation environment that can manage workload fluctuations and computing demands.
