It’s been five years since HP-UX 11i first began shipping on Integrity servers!

balloons
It’s been five years since HP-UX 11i first began shipping on Integrity servers. Today it delivers innovation built on the stable and mature HP-UX code stream, with thousands of ISV applications available. HP-UX 11i v2 delivers leadership business value.

The initial release, HP-UX 11i v1.5 (intended for developers), was first introduced in June, 2001, followed by HP-UX 11i v1.6 just a year later.  The third release, HP-UX 11i v2 September 2004, was the first combined HP 9000 server and Integrity server operating system release.  HP-UX 11i v2 continues HP’s commitment to quality and provides an ideal way to transition from HP 9000 servers to Integrity servers.  HP provides exceptionally strong compatibility between HP 9000 servers and Integrity servers with complete data compatibility, source code and Application Build Environment compatibility, binary compatibility and networking compatibility.  HP-UX 11i v2 builds on the stability and maturity of HP-UX 11i v1, yet delivers innovative new technologies including:

  • vPars on Integrity and HP 9000 servers
  • HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite
  • HP Integrity Virtual Machines
  • PCI Error Handling
  • Distributed Systems Administration Utility
  • System Management Homepage
  • and more …

HP has been aggressively recruiting ISVs and now has over 8000 ISV applications available on Integrity. “Itanium allies have pledged to spend $10 billion advancing the Itanium technology and market in the next five years, and $1 billion a year of that is from HP.”¹   HP-UX 11i is a significant portion of the HP $1 billion/year Integrity investment.  HP-UX 11i ISV adoption is accelerating with an astounding 70% growth in just 6 months.

TIBCO announced that the HP-UX 11i operating system has been named as one of the preferred UNIX platforms for TIBCO global customers.

HP-UX 11i is the primary platform for mission-critical virtualization leadership and relentlessly runs the major, enterprise mission-critical solutions including transaction processing, business intelligence and decision support applications, as well as large corporate databases.

According to IDC, HP took over the #1 total UNIX revenue market share in 1CQ06.  In high-end UNIX revenue, HP has a strong #1 position in high-end UNIX server revenue (48.3% market share).
