Webcast description

The HP optimizing compilers for Itanium are designed to deliver outstanding application performance on HP Integrity systems.  Learn how to utilize the compiler to increase application performance.  Base optimization levels provide robust performance through both general-purpose and Itanium-specific optimizations.  Additionally, several key optimization flags can provide significant performance boosts to many classes of applications.  The compiler also provides mechanisms to control floating-point application behavior, and to troubleshoot application correctness and performance problems.

Agenda

The content of this Webcast is delivered according to the following agenda:

  • Leveraging the Itanium® architecture
  • HP compiler optimization levels
  • Getting the most from HP Integrity servers
  • Performance tuning for floating-point applications
  • Troubleshooting potential problems
  • Performance tuning resources

Audience

This Webcast is intended for software developers working with the HP-UX operating system - both in independent software vendor and end user companies - and the channel partner and HP technical representatives who support them. In particular, this course is for developers who have C/C++ or Fortan programming and compiler experience.

Objectives

This Webcast’s objective is to establish the relationship between the HP optimizing compilers and outstanding Itanium performance, and enable participants to

  • Determine the base optimization level that should be used for their application
  • Understand how to use both inter-procedural and profile-based optimizations to obtain potentially significant performance improvements
  • Identify optimization flags that are safe and effective for their application
  • Identify compiler and other resources available for performance analysis and tuning

Speaker biography

Teresa Johnson has worked in the HP Itanium compiler group since 1998. In addition to compiler optimization, she has significant experience with performance analysis and tuning of customer applications. Her specialty is data cache optimization.

Teresa has a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
