Webcast description

The new Dual Core Itanium 2 processor (Montecito) with Hyper-Threading is the first EPIC architecture to support hardware multi-threading.  Depending on the workload, the hardware multi-threading offers increased instructional throughput by reducing stalled time to resolve cache misses.  Because not all applications benefit from hardware multi-threading, HP-UX integrates the ability to dynamically enable and disable hardware multi-threading with the processor set.

Although we cannot authoritatively conclude whether certain applications will benefit from Intel’s Hyper-Threading, HP provides general guideline on types of applications that may benefit.

Learn about HP-UX approach to supporting Intel’s Hyper-Threading technology.

Agenda

The content of this Webcast is delivered according to the following agenda:

  • Overview of Montecito Hyper-Threading technology
  • Logical CPUs and processor sets
  • OS Scheduler change overview
  • Application consideration
  • Commercial benchmark results
  • System topology
  • Licensing issues

Audience

This Webcast is intended for software developers working with the HP-UX operating system - both in independent software vendor and end user companies - and the channel partner and HP technical representatives who support them. In particular, this course is for developers who have basic knowledge in VSE.

Objectives

This Webcast’s objective is to enable participants to

  • Understand the HP-UX 11i approach to supporting Intel’s Hyper-Threading
