Rakuten Securties Inc. which was founded in March of 1999, is the first company in Japan to specialize in on-line trading over the Internet. When they decided to migrate their mission critical database operations, Rakuten selected HP-UX 11i on Integrity Superdome and Oracle 9i RAC. Rakuten Securities Inc. is just one of several companies that are a part of Rakuten Inc., which also operates Rakuten Ichiba, the busiest on-line shopping mall and on-line auction for Japanese consumers.

In April 2005, because they were experiencing an increase in the number of customer accounts and trades, Rakuten Securities Inc. decided to migrate their mission critical database operations (for over 600,000 accounts) , to Oracle 9i RAC. They have chosen HP-UX on Integrity Superdomes with active-active cluster and a scale-out configuration.

Close collaboration between HP and Oracle helped Rakuten Securities Inc. to smoothly migrate to Oracle 9i RAC running on the HP-UX 11i v2 operating system. Three sets of 2- node RAC clusters were configured with 32-CPU HP Integrity Superdome systems.
