TechWise Research Inc., an independent primary market research firm, has published two research papers – one disclosing fast customer payback when upgrading from HP 9000 servers to HP Integrity servers running HP-UX 11i, and the second underscoring the business value return from consolidating workloads on HP-UX 11i v3 using its virtualization technologies.

Quantifying the Total Cost of Upgrading HP-UX Environments from HP 9000 servers to HP Integrity servers

This paper depicts costs savings achieved by replacing a single HP-UX 9000 server with a HP-UX Integrity server.  The results from 232 customer surveys show that the majority of companies view Integrity servers to be as good, or better, than HP 9000 servers.  This study also shows that HP-UX on Integrity is just as easy to manage and as reliable as HP-UX on HP 9000.

Significant quotes from the paper:

“In three out of the four scenarios studied, the payback period is less than 2 years.”

“For Oracle database customers, the payback periods are even significantly less which makes the decision to upgrade a no-brainer.”

“In doing this study, we also found that 20% of respondents are already using HP-UX Version 3 on one or more of their servers.”

This paper highlights the customer savings that can be achieved when consolidating workloads running on HP 9000 servers with HP-UX on Integrity server with HP-UX 11i v3, with savings attributable to the features of HP-UX 11i v3, HP-UX 11i virtualization technologies and the power of today’s Integrity blade and rackmount servers.

In this study, 72% of respondents surveyed indicated that they will likely purchase one or more Integrity servers by December 2008 specifically to implement server virtualization.

Key quote from the paper:

“The analysis shows that in three out of four scenarios studied, using HP Integrity servers to consolidate multiple HP 9000 servers running HP-UX pays for itself in 9 months or less. …. due to the high performance and low cost of HP Integrity Blade servers, and the functionality of Integrity Virtual Machine, it is possible to consolidate 8 HP 9000 servers into 2 Integrity Blades and have the consolidation pay for itself in just 5 months."
