Webcast description

This Webcast describes how to optimize the performance of SAP on HP-UX 11i systems, with particular emphasis on large, multi-celled Itanium-based Integrity servers.

Agenda

The content of this Webcast is delivered according to the following agenda:

  • Maximizing processor efficiency by reducing:
  • TLB misses
  • Cache misses
  • Memory latency
  • Configuring and tuning SAP instances
  • Tuning HP-UX 11i  for SAP
  • LiveCache and other multi-threaded apps

Audience

This Webcast is intended primarily for system administrators who manage SAP applications on large HP-UX 11i systems, and who want to optimize overall system performance. The Webcast assumes the audience is familiar with basic tools and techniques for monitoring performance on HP-UX systems in general, and SAP in particular.

Objectives

This Webcast describes general principles for configuring SAP systems, utilizing HP-UX features such as processor sets and cell local memory, to boost processor efficiency and maximize overall system performance, in order to help system administrators significantly improve both throughput and response time on systems that are already well-tuned for both disk and network I/O.

Database tuning is not discussed.

Speaker biography

Bob Wynne works in the performance section of the HP-UX kernel lab, EKSL. For the past 6 years his main responsibility has been optimizing SAP performance and publishing SAP benchmarks on HP-UX.

Bob holds a PhD from the University of California, San Diego, and has worked on OS performance for more than 20 years.

"Many SAP customers are running their business critical applications on HP-UX 11i v3 very successfully. Due to the excellent binary compatibility this HP-UX release could be made available to our customers very fast and easily. HP-UX 11i v3  provides some significant performance improvements that are highly appreciated. Especially in SAP LiveCache environments those improvements are extremely beneficial."
