HP-UX 25 years

Built for tomorrow, 25 years ago

Back in 1983, when HP-UX 1.0 was first introduced, Ronald Reagan was president of the US and “Return of the Jedi” was a hit at the box office. The PC was but a toddler, the VAX an adolescent, the mainframe in advancing middle age, and the Apple Macintosh barely a gleam in Steve Jobs’ eye.

It was then that a new operating system emerged as a strong, powerful, dependable driver of business. The UNIX® operating system could be trusted with increasingly bigger, industrial-size databases and corporate applications…and it was available on servers backed by one of the big names in business systems—HP.
